HUGE CROWD AT RANDWICK 1956

The late Ern McQuillan found himself a great vantage point to snap this huge crowd in the Paddock betting ring at Randwick in 1956.  Judging by the apparel of the day the weather was on the cool side.

Racegoers in that era seemed to handle the crush, which was part and parcel of a major race day.  They may have struggled a bit on Easter Saturday 1948, when ninety two thousand people descended on Randwick Racecourse to watch George Moore win the Doncaster on “The Diver”.
