With a couple of old media mates at a Harold Park charity fundraiser in 1997.
In the centre is Ken Sutcliffe who retired recently after a brilliant 40 year career with the Nine Network. Ken was a very popular host on programmes like Wide World Of Sports and Sports Sunday. He also presented the weeknight sports segment on Nine News following Mike Gibson’s move to Channel 10 in the 1980’s. Ken is now retired in his hometown of Mudgee.
On the right is 2GB’s Ray Hadley, one of Australia’s most successful radio hosts. Ray has enjoyed a record run of survey wins in recent years.
He made his mark as a race caller early in his career at the gallops and the trots. He actually spent a few years as course commentator at Harold Park after Ray Conroy’s retirement in 1985.
Both are wonderful supporters of charity, dedicating many hours to assist at fundraising events all over Sydney. Ray is a quick witted and entertaining auctioneer.
On the night this photo was snapped, Ken and Ray were happy to help out at a Friday night function in the Paleface Adios Room at Harold Park for the Variety Club Of Australia.
It can’t possibly be twenty two years ago…..can it?
