Shadea didn’t turn too many heads as Wayne Harris brought her back to scale after winning the 1991 Sweet Embrace Stakes at Rosehill - one of only two wins for the plain, lightly framed filly.
She did however finish second in the Sires Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes of the same year and later won an open 2YO with 57kgs. She was trained throughout her career by Barry Lockwood.
She eventually joined the broodmare band at Jack and Bob Ingham’s Woodlands Stud destined to win fame as the dam of the champion Lonhro and his full brother Niello. Lonhro won 26 races including 11 Gr 1’s for almost $5.8 million, while Niello was a three time Gr 1 winner. He earned a few dollars under the million.
Bred in NZ, Shadea was by Straight Strike out of the First Consul mare Concia. She was found dead in her paddock at Woodlands Stud in 2004.
Her son Lonhro has become a celebrated sire with twelve Gr 1 winners to date, including current in demand sire Pierro.
