Great to see the Melbourne Racing Club pay homage to two great race callers of yesteryear at Saturday’s Caulfield meeting. Races were named after Bill Collins and Bert Bryant, two giants of the profession who had huge followings on opposing Melbourne radio stations in their heydays.
We posted a special tribute to Bert Bryant in the very early days of the website which tells the story of the little battler from Dubbo who called his first race at Geurie (NSW) before landing the top job in Melbourne. He was lauded as the race caller whose brand of humour could take the pain out of losing your money.
Following is the link which will take you back to the original post.
