It’s always a pleasure to send some of this high quality feed to bush horsemen. The November consignment goes to Blackall trainer David Rewald whose achievements in the month just gone attracted plenty of attention in regional Queensland. From a team of just sixteen horses David produced winning trebles at Winton and Barcaldine.
His Barcaldine winners on November 26th were Zilitor (Sarah Robbins), All Sorted (Robert Faehr) and Flash Fibian (Robert Faehr). His Winton treble three weeks earlier was provided by Matagorda, Wiki and Lassell all ridden by Robert Faehr. Had it not been for a fractured ankle sustained in a fall at Betoota in August, David may have ridden one or two of those winners himself. The remarkable sixty two year old retains his dual licence, and is nearing forty seven years as an active jockey.
David Rewald is a member of a famous Taroom racing family. He and his four brothers may have established some sort of a record a few years ago when they were all riding in races at the same time. David has no idea of his career win tally as a jockey, but is very proud of his record in regional Cup races. Perhaps his biggest thrill was to win the 2008 Birdsville Cup on Evading for his long time friend Charlie Prow.
Not even ongoing issues from his current ankle injury can keep him down. He took a team of eight horses to the Longreach meeting on Saturday. Racing in the region will now go into recess until February, giving David a chance to “freshen” the team and do his best to get that troublesome ankle back on track. Twelve complimentary bags of Pryde’s EasiPerformance will soon find their way into the Rewald feed room at Blackall. Congratulations Dave!
