Cindy Monaghan can be justifiably proud of her training statistics for the month just gone. The Dubbo trainer had only five horses in the stable during April and all earned their keep. The quintet of Monaghan runners contested ten races between them in twenty four days, and achieved commendable results.
Friendly Sizzle won races at Quirindi and Wellington ridden on both occasions by Kath Bell-Pitomac. Candid and Always A Saint gave Cindy a double on her hometrack on April 7th with Braith Nock doing the honours on both horses. The trainer also provided two second placings during April, an overall effort deserving of the Pryde’s EasiFeed award.
Cindy Monaghan learned the fundamentals of training from her late father George Dawson who enjoyed great success from his Strathalbyn base over a long period of years. Cindy spent a lengthy period as George’s foreperson and was well qualified to train in her own right by the time she made the decision to move to NSW in the year 2000.
She won her first NSW race in 2001 with Beau Master at Scone, and has maintained a healthy strike rate over two decades. She places her horses judiciously and isn’t afraid to travel in search of the right race. Cindy’s justifiably proud of two city wins with Tricked and another with Pim. The latter saluted at 66/1 with Chris Munce in the saddle.
Cindy’s partner is the ever ebullient Tim Moses whose versatility knows no bounds. This man has left his mark as a race caller, journalist, compere and radio personality. He can shear a sheep with the best of them and pull a truck engine to pieces if necessary. He’s also well known in the horse transport business providing reliable service to local trainers and broodmare owners. Tim excels in the art of telling a yarn with great expression and perfect comedic timing. He reeled off a couple for me on the occasion of our last meeting at the Nyngan Show two years ago. Tim himself is a dab hand with horses, and Cindy’s the first to admit he offers wise counsel whenever a problem arises with one of the team.
Cindy’s talents have never been more evident than they were in April 2024. Twelve complimentary bags of Pryde’s EasiPerformance will soon land in the feed room at her Dubbo stables.
