Brett Bellamy’s six win haul on northern tracks brings him the Pryde’s monthly award. The Coffs Harbour trainer kicked off his winning sequence with a double at Grafton on July 7th - Change the Date (Jon Grisedale) and The Wolf (Michael Cahill). Six days later he saddled up Durusehvar to win at Taree with Mollie Fitzgerald in the saddle. It was back to Grafton twenty four hours later to win with Imperial Hilton (Courtney Bellamy). Brett’s daughter Courtney also did the honours on Extra Manners at Grafton on July 18th, and on La Cache A Vin at Inverell on the 20th of the month. Interesting to note he’s already posted another two winners since the new season began.
Brett Bellamy grew up in the famous Hawkesbury racing precinct and wanted to be a trainer from mid teens. He gained valuable experience in a two year stint with former Randwick trainer Mal Barnes, before spending a further two years with the breeding arm of the famous Lindsay Park operation in South Australia. He would spend one more season at a Tamworth Stud Farm before launching his own training career at Coffs Harbour.
The first really nice horse to come his way was a “hand-me-down” from another stable. He won eleven races with Mahlula Star including one at Eagle Farm, and Brett’s solo career was up and running. His talents were again showcased when he acquired a tried horse called Sectagonal from Sydney owners for just $12,500. Brett would win nine races with the gelding, eight of which were on Brisbane metropolitan tracks. The trainer has maintained a steady winning strike rate ever since.
He can’t help but dine out on the fact that he supplied Zac Purton with his first winning ride at Armidale, but daughter Courtney is obviously his all time favourite jockey. Twenty one year old Courtney is just a win away from outriding her 2 kg country claim, and ranks as one of the most improved apprentices in the state.
Congratulations to Brett Bellamy on an award winning effort in the month of July. Twelve complimentary bags of Pryde’s EasiPerformance will soon land in his Coffs Harbour feed room.
