The significance of Greg Hickman’s Midway win with Glounthaune (Ire) on Saturday was lost on many racing fans. It’s likely that Greg himself had forgotten he’d trained the winner of the very first Midway ever staged on July 3rd, 2021.

America’s victory over Japan in the famous Battle Of Midway in 1942, was no more comprehensive than Greg Hickman’s triumph with Our Bellagio Miss in the equine battle of the same name at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
PIERATA ALMOST GOT THERE FOR HIS GREATEST FAN
It’s hard to believe Pierata has a greater fan than his popular part owner and trainer Greg Hickman, but there is one such devotee. “Give Tim Payne a ring. He’s clocked every gallop the horse has ever had,” said Hickman.
SIR DEX FOUND A WONDERFUL LIFE AFTER RACING.
Who remembers Sir Dex? He wasn’t in the same league as Greg Hickman’s current headliner Pierata, but good enough to amass prize money of $831,000 - a tidy sum in 2005 when he bowed out of racing.
